A warm welcome to the friends of this website, and also to those who have happened on it by chance, hoping that they may discover something of interest.
As an artist who from the very beginning explored a wide range of creative outlets, and who has always enjoyed experimenting with new media, my work reflects this in its diversity. For me, my various talents and interests are like the fingers of my hand. Each one is precious and essential. While still at school I made fifteen films, wrote a comedy play and a radio play and theatre sketches, a full length novel and a number of short stories, the themes for a symphony, and a number of songs and piano pieces. I was all over the place, and have joyfully remained so ever since.
My first commercial success came with my screenplay for the folk horror film, „The Devil’s Skin“, now known as “The Blood on Satan’s Claw“, written when I was 22. My Irish film „The Outcasts“ (1982) with Mick Lally, Mary Ryan, and Cyril Cusack was the biggest award winner. In Ireland I also made the „When Reason Sleeps“ TV series and „Double Piquet“. Following the Velvet Revolution in Prague I made a short film „Scherzo“ at Barrandov Studios, using music by Gustav Mahler. My student film „Judgment of Albion“, based on the writings of William Blake and narrated by Donald Sinden, Anthony Quayle and Nigel Andrews is now available through the BFI.
My song cycle „The Vagrant Muse“ setting poetry by John Clare, was performed at Blackheath Concert Halls and at Oxford University by Alastair Thompson, a founder member of the King’s Singers. My “Symphony of Changes”, my “Violin Sonata” and “Gothic Game Musical” are complete, and await performance ‘post Corona’.
My first play, “The Gibbet”, was performed to packed houses at Cambridge University. More recently, my play „The Deluge“, based on stories by Karen Blixen, was performed at Edinburgh, with Susannah York in the lead role.
My novels „A Winter Emerald“, and „Voices in the Wall“ are available through epubli.de.
